What is Cupping?
In addition to acupuncture and Chinese herbs, cupping is another traditional Chinese medicine tool that we offer here at Oaktree. A Chinese Fire Cupping session will produce similar results as a deep tissue massage.
With cupping, we place heat in the cup to create a vacuum effect which will draw the skin up into the cup. This suction effect will bring fresh oxygenated blood to the area, release toxins and promote lymphatic drainage. Some patients experience some mild discomfort in the beginning of the session, however; most patients find it to be very relaxing.
Cupping is most effective when used to treat tight muscles. This is true especially for neck and shoulder tension, back pain, hip pain, leg pain, joint pain, inflammation and fibromyalgia.
We also strongly recommend cupping when you feel a cold or flu coming on. This can be a great therapy for kids. It has the ability to help open up the chest, supports the lungs to alleviate respiratory problems such as cough, bronchitis and asthma.
